An Oldie But a Goodie! 2008 Recap!

During the Summer of 2008, yes 2008 I was invited to do a live painting event in a vacant store front in the 200 block of Market street, here in Wilmington DE. I have been doing some house cleaning of my archive and I though this would be a great recap! - Its never to late to show off old work. The wall was actually a cover up from a wall that my class painted as a demo. At the time, I was an adjunct Instructor at Delaware College of Art and Design. The name of the class was "Urban Expressionism" and art history of Graffiti and Street art. As you can see we used crappy paint and no caps but we made it happen! I taught a session on abstraction. And, this is what we came up with. I then painted over it about a week later and did this Live painting event as part of the July 2008 Wilmington Art loop. I have also included some images of some art that I showed during the event.

Eclosion: New Work from NWAA
New Wilmington Art Association promotes exposure to contemporary art theory and practices through its unique guerrilla model. NWAA inhabits the raw storefront spaces on Market Street-literally on the "fringe" of Wilmington's commercial district. During the inaugural festival of Fringe Wilmington, NWAA continues its practice by presenting Eclosion. The theme of this group exhibition is transformation-the transformation of downtown Wilmington, NWAA's transformative activities, or the recent transformation in our political and economic atmospheres. This subject is evident in the work selected for the show and offers the opportunity to discuss the intriguing and thought-provoking art produced both locally and internationally today.
Art:21 Access '09 For October's third Thursday closing event, NWAA will participate in Art:21 Access '09-- an international screening initiative of Season 5 of Art:21--Art in the Twenty-First Century. On October 15th from 6-9pm, NWAA will screen Episode 3: Transformation and Episode 4: Systems. Transformation includes interviews with Yinka Shonibare MBE, Cindy Sherman, and Paul McCarthy. Each of these three artists observe, satirize, or reinvent characters from literature, history, art history, science, and popular culture. Julie Mehretu, John Baldessari, Kimsooja, and Allan McCollum are included in Systems, which examines work that conveys networks, structures, mapping, or information exchange today.

NWAA member artists featured in Eclosion: Benjamin Austin, Brookes Britcher, Breck Brunson, Alexander Chassey, Hunter Clarke, Jennifer Dillner-Vincent, William Fields, Francine Fox, Ryan Jones, Michael Kalmbach, Amanda Kamen, James Lipovac, Ronald Longsdorf, Chris Marrero, Jared Mimm, Gregg Morris, Eric Napier, Ashley John Pigford, Nikholis Planck, Michael Podolak, Dan Rios, Phillip Scarpone, Chuck Schultz, SquareWell, Brad Turner, and Eddie Whelan.
